During the Oct. 20, Kern County Board of Supervisors meeting, members approved an agreement with Flood Bakersfield Ministries Inc. (Flood) for the development of a rural navigation center with the use of Homeless Housing Assistance and Prevention (HHAP) Program funds, according to Zachary Wakefield, field representative, for District 4 Supervisor David Couch

Back in April, the Board accepted the $1.45 million allocation of HHAP funds awarded to the County, Wakefield said. HHAP is a $650 million one-time block grant that provides local jurisdiction with funds to support regional coordination and develop local capacity to address homelessness challenges.

Flood, through the collaborative process with the Bakersfield-Kern Regional Homeless Collaborative (BKRHC) and the City of Bakersfield, has been selected to receive $225,000 in County HHAP funds to develop a navigation center in a rural area of the County, he said. Flood will develop a 30-bed low navigation center to provide support to the unsheltered homeless individuals in the City of Delano. The HHAP program provides the funds to support this effort for the two-year term.
